This was the second day of writing workshops with Karla. Here she spent some one – on – one time which each student. She spoke with them regarding where they were in comparison to the previous week, how and if they wanted to change/improve what they had. On this day, the advocates reviewed with scholars what they would need in order to fill out their FAFSA. While Karla worked with students one – on – one, the mentors tended to students, preparing them for their meeting with Karla and helping those who were had issues/questions.
Parents joined us on campus to discuss financial aid options, as the seniors prepare to start finish up their college application process in the fall of senior year.
Tina from Admissions spent some time with the Scholars on October 22 going over Parsons’ requirements for application. There’s so much to know about the admissions process so it is great for the scholars to be able to think about everything sooner rather than later.
Senior year for the scholars means a lot of time spent in computer labs. Filling out applications, revising essays, researching colleges, and scholarships.
Seniors hit the ground running, starting right in on their college essays on their first day of Academy! Fall semester is a busy time for the seniors and their advocates, as they hustle to finish college applications.
Seniors give up their last free Saturday of the semester to meet with us to prepare for the semester. We tried a VERY difficult ice breaker!
For a few weeks in August, the soon-to-be seniors came on campus to start working on their college applications. They spent hours each day researching colleges, learning about majors, and visioning about their futures for college and beyond.
On their first day of the Parsons Scholars Program, sophomore scholars take a field trip to the Studio Museum of Harlem with their advocates Yashua and Havanna to look at the current exhibitions.
